Orchard Moon -
The Sky That Remembered Summer
A row of old fruit trees on a misty hillside, their gnarled silhouettes dark against a sky that cannot decide what season it is. The ground is deep winter-green, the trees bare and fog-softened. But above them, the sky blooms in blue and violet, streaked with white wisps that curl and rise like smoke or breath, and at their convergence point – a full moon, small and perfectly white, the still centre of everything.
The colour in the sky is neither natural nor entirely invented. It feels like the memory of a summer evening, projected onto a winter night – as if the atmosphere itself is nostalgic.
Of all the works in this series, this one is the most quietly transcendent. No disruption, no fracture. Just light, mist, old trees and a moon that has illuminated this hillside for longer than anyone can remember.
Some evenings, the sky does something you were not expecting. This was one of them.
