Moored -
Red Hull in the Rain
A boat at rest, seen through rain-pocked water. The red of the hull burns with an intensity that the deep blue world around it cannot absorb. Above it, a blue tarpaulin – the same blue as the water, as the night, as the reflection – seems to float free of the boat entirely, hovering between surface and depth.
Rain rings disturb the mirror. Black vertical streaks cut through the scene like scratches on film. The reflection below the hull glows red against the dark water, a second boat in an underworld of stone and shadow.
The image is at once documentary and dreamlike. A familiar harbour scene made strange by the collision of saturated colour, rain, and reflection – until the boat no longer seems anchored to anything solid at all.
It floats between two worlds, belonging fully to neither.
