Burning silence

Burning Silence -
The Landscape as Fever

A winter landscape – and yet it burns.

Beneath the heavy black of the sky stretches a snow-covered plain with farmsteads and bare trees. But something has settled over this familiar stillness, setting it ablaze: red lines shoot into the sky like lightning, cyan branches drip downward like melting neon, blue breaks through the center like an electric impulse.

Red and cyan – colors of contradiction, of pain and cold – compete for the pictorial space. Neither wins. The photographic stillness of the winter landscape is driven into a state of extreme agitation through painterly intervention. The trees no longer grow – they explode.

The landscape does not lie – but it no longer stays silent.
