Dissolution

Dissolution -
When the Image Eats Itself

A lake in winter fog. Pale, still, almost monochrome the kind of quiet that feels held rather than empty. A solitary buoy floats in the foreground, small and yellowwhite, the only warm note in a silver world.

Then darkness intrudes. From the upper left, a mass of deep black spreads across the image like an ink spill or a shadow with no source – consuming the rain rings on the water's surface, scattering into fragments as it moves toward the center. It does not explode. It dissolves. Black flecks drift across the calm water like debris after something has passed.

The photograph and its disruption feel equally real. Neither dominates. The lake remains serene in its lower half while above, something is being erased – or perhaps revealed.

The buoy holds its place. Everything else is negotiable.
