Seeing is not merely a function of vision; it is a function of attention. The majority of our surroundings remain invisible to us, not because they are hidden, but because they fail to interrupt our expectations. We are trained to notice disruption, rarity, spectacle.
The photographs underlying UNSEEN originate from ordinary encounters near Lake Constance. They are rooted in moments that typically dissolve without leaving a trace in memory. Yet the failure to notice does not imply the absence of meaning or beauty.
Photography, however, inherits the limitations of perception. What escapes attention in life often escapes recognition in images. The viewer’s gaze moves restlessly, shaped by habit and distraction.
In response, this work departs from simple representation. Photographs become material for further construction — combined, transformed, placed into new visual contexts. Through this process, realities arise that never existed outside the image itself.
The unseen is not only what we overlook. It is also what has never yet been.
